cambro @ 5:51pm: So I'm considering getting an e-book reader. Not because I have the slightest interest in actual e-books--I'm still a paper junkie--but because I have about ten zillion PDFs, and I don't want to kill a million trees to print them out, but I also don't like the idea of having to read them all on a laptop or desktop. I understand that the standard-model Kindle has PDF support now, and I may just go with that, but I've also heard that the Barnes and Noble e-reader is promising.

I don't know how many people read this anymore, but I know that a few of you are techies, so I'd welcome any feedback on this. Any experience with e-book readers? Any recommendations? Think I should just wait a while for the price to go down and the bugs to get worked out?

lucre @ 4:37am: Celebrity Gossip: Why?
posted as a comment on [info]ohbusiness;

I once saw a magazine a coworker was reading wherein candid photos of celebrities were paired with captions in brightly colored cartoonish letters simply narrating what the celebrities were doing as if awed by the mundane actions; “They... EAT TACOS!” “They... PAY THE DRY-CLEANER!” “They... BUY CIGARETTES!” Always “they” as though what one celebrity does speaks for all of them as a group, since once you become recognized as an entertainer, you lose the power of individual decision making.

There apparently exists some marketable portion of humanity that perceive celebrities as space aliens, and are awed that their behavior so nearly mimics that of human beings.

Perhaps this stuff sells because the folks buying it impose on celebrities the unexamined lives of crushing conformity they themselves live.
